About Missy and Why I Chose this Profession
In my mid twenties I came down with the worst case of Candida overgrowth after 2 weeks of antibiotics to treat an ear infection. The candida episode had me bed bound exhausted, achy, fuzzy brained for several weeks….My doctors could not figure it out. Frustrated, I went searching on my own. I gathered alot of holistic information through books and naturopathic practionors.
It was my first introduction to the importance of healthy gut microbiome and its important connection to the rest of the body. After self healing through very challenging Systemic Yeast Overgrowth protocols – about a year’s worth – I finally never felt better!
I had found out the truth about root causes of gut bacteria imbalance and why we are suffering as a nation and I wanted to learn more. Went back to school to study health and nutrition but I wasn’t done. After leaving California 29 years ago to get married I moved to Florida and started working in natural health stores.
There I was able to help others through herbs, vitamins, minerals and food. Back then Whole Foods had 7 long rows of vitamins, a huge wall of herbs and two rows dedicated to a large collection of books and other reading materials about health. We made as much in sales as the grocery department! It was there I had the great fortune of meeting one of my biggest role models Brenda Watson. She was a Colon Therapist and Original founder of the ReNew Life products.
The detox company made the most wonderful liver detox, Colon products, digestive lining products, and fiber and more. She’d take me and my crew to educational luncheons and teach us that the way to heal was to cleanse and nourish our systems. Each detox pathway benefited from certain amino acids and herbs and vitamins and foods and after 4 plus years of knowing her I knew by the time I moved to Tampa 23 years ago I would go back to school again and become a Florida licensed Colon Therapist Myself!
Throughout the years I continued to witness what I call the ‘perfect storm of events’
Basically starting in the early 2000s, our nation’s commercial farming soil became heavily over farmed leaving it empty of essential minerals and good bacteria. Then glyphostate was introduced in the DNA of the seeds, and many other GMO’s then the onslaught of drugs advertised on TV (without the mandated lists of side effects then) and the growing list of FDA backed chemicals in our food system especially processed food, cosmetics, baby food and more, then if that wasn’t bad enough………..Covid.
So now you know why I chose this field. Our American bodies are in great need of the ultimate cleanse. Then the ultimate rebuild. I absolutely love what I do, being part of one’s journey from fatigue to fantastic brings me the greatest joy and accomplishment!
